Jesus (known as 'Isa' in Arabic) holds a highly honored status in Islam. While Christianity views Jesus as the Son of God, Islam recognizes him as one of the greatest prophets and messengers of Allah. His story is mentioned in several places throughout the Quran, affirming his miraculous birth, his message, and his role in guiding people towards monotheism.

Jesus in the Quran: A Prophet and Messenger of Allah

Islam acknowledges Jesus as a Prophet, not as divine. The Quran clarifies that he was sent by Allah to preach the message of Tawheed (the oneness of God).

"He (Jesus) said, ‘Indeed, I am a servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet.’"(Surah Maryam 19:30)

This verse establishes that Jesus was a servant of Allah, just like other prophets before him. He was given divine revelation—the Injil (Gospel)—to guide the Children of Israel.

The Miraculous Birth of Jesus in Islam

One of the most well-known aspects of Jesus' story in Islam is his miraculous birth. The Quran describes how Maryam (Mary), his mother, conceived him without a father, as a direct command from Allah.

"Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allah is like that of Adam. He created him from dust; then He said to him, 'Be,' and he was."(Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:59)

This verse highlights that just as Adam was created without parents, Jesus was born without a father—both being miracles of Allah's power.

Did Jesus Die on the Cross?

Islam rejects the crucifixion of Jesus, differing from the Christian belief. Instead, the Quran states that Jesus was not killed but was raised to the heavens by Allah.

"And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them."(Surah An-Nisa 4:157)

Instead of dying on the cross, Allah saved Jesus and raised him up, and he will return before the Day of Judgment to restore justice and affirm the true message of Islam.

Jesus Will Return Before the Day of Judgment

A key belief in Islam is that Jesus will return as a sign of the approaching Last Day. His second coming will be to restore monotheism and defeat the false Messiah (Dajjal).

"And indeed, he [Jesus] will be a sign for [the coming of] the Hour. So have no doubt about it, and follow Me. This is a straight path." (Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:61)

Muslims believe that Jesus' return will unite people under the true worship of Allah and establish peace and justice.
