The last ten nights of Ramadan are the most sacred and rewarding. Among them lies Laylatul Qadr (the Night of Decree), a night better than a thousand months (Quran 97:3). This is the perfect time to seek forgiveness, blessings, and spiritual renewal. Here are ten powerful ways to make the most of these blessed nights:
1. Seek Laylatul Qadr Every Night
The exact night of Laylatul Qadr is unknown, and that is part of its wisdom—so that we strive in worship, dua, and good deeds every single night. While the odd nights (21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, and 29th) are given special importance, a believer should dedicate themselves completely for all ten nights to ensure they don’t miss this night of immense blessings. Use these nights to sincerely seek Allah’s mercy and ask for all that your heart desires.
2. Increase Night Prayers (Tahajjud & Qiyam-ul-Layl)
The Prophet ﷺ emphasized praying during these nights, as it is a means of drawing closer to Allah. Tahajjud is one of the most rewarding prayers and is best performed in the last third of the night. If you are unable to wake up late at night, pray extra Qiyam-ul-Layl (night prayers) after Isha. Even if you can only pray two additional rak’ahs, do so with full devotion, asking for Allah’s guidance, mercy, and forgiveness.
3. Make Sincere Dua
Dua is the weapon of the believer, and these nights are the best time to make heartfelt supplications. Allah loves to be asked, so ask Him for forgiveness, success, protection, and Jannah. Aisha (RA) asked the Prophet ﷺ what to recite on Laylatul Qadr, and he recommended:
Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul-‘afwa fa‘fu ‘anni (O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love to forgive, so forgive me) (Tirmidhi).
Spend time making dua for yourself, your family, the Ummah, and even those who have passed away.
4. Recite and Reflect on the Quran

Ramadan is the month of the Quran, and the last ten nights provide a perfect opportunity to connect deeply with it. If you cannot complete its recitation, focus on quality over quantity—read with meaning, ponder over its messages, and seek to apply its teachings in daily life. Consider listening to tafsir (Quranic explanation) to enhance your understanding.
5. Give Charity Every Night
One of the best ways to maximize rewards during these nights is to give charity every night, even if it is a small amount. The rewards of giving during Laylatul Qadr are equivalent to giving continuously for 1,000 months! If possible, divide your donations across all ten nights so that you do not miss out on the immense blessings of this night. Support causes like feeding the poor, helping orphans, and funding Islamic education.
6. Engage in Constant Dhikr & Istighfar
The remembrance of Allah brings peace to the heart and elevates one’s rank in the hereafter. Engage in constant dhikr and istighfar throughout these nights. You can repeat:
SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah)
Alhamdulillah (All praise is for Allah)
Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest)
La ilaha illallah (There is no god but Allah)
Astaghfirullah (I seek Allah’s forgiveness)
Make it a habit to keep your tongue and heart engaged in these simple, yet powerful, phrases throughout the night.
7. Perform I'tikaf (Seclusion in the Masjid)
If possible, dedicate these ten nights to I’tikaf, which involves staying in the masjid for continuous worship and detaching from worldly distractions. I’tikaf allows for spiritual purification, deep reflection, and increased connection with Allah. If you cannot stay the full ten days, consider doing partial I’tikaf, even for a single night or a few hours.
8. Reduce Distractions
In today's digital world, distractions are everywhere. Minimize social media, unnecessary conversations, and entertainment during these nights. Instead, dedicate your time to prayer, Quran recitation, dhikr, and self-reflection. Set boundaries with family and friends to ensure you have uninterrupted moments of worship. You can also try different Islamic apps like Quranly, Quran Mazid and Hakma!
9. Involve Your Family in Worship

Ramadan is not just about personal worship but also about family engagement. Involve your children by teaching them about Laylatul Qadr, Quranic stories, and the importance of dua. If they are too young for long prayers, encourage them with short duas, stories of the prophets, and good deeds. Platforms like Hakma provide Islamic educational content, interactive quizzes, and engaging ebooks, making it easier for children to learn about Islam in a fun and engaging way. Utilize such resources to cultivate their love for faith.
10. Make a Life-Changing Resolution
Ramadan is a time of transformation, and these ten nights are an opportunity to make a life-changing resolution. Commit to long-term spiritual growth, such as:
Maintaining regular Quran recitation beyond Ramadan.
Continuing night prayers, even if occasionally.
Developing a habit of daily dhikr and seeking forgiveness.
Giving charity consistently, even in small amounts.
Write down your goals and make a sincere intention to sustain your worship after Ramadan ends.
Final Thoughts
These ten nights are a golden opportunity for seeking Allah’s mercy, forgiveness, and countless rewards. Whether through prayer, Quran, charity, or teaching your children about Islam through platforms like Hakma, make sure to maximize your worship.
May we all be among those who benefit from Laylatul Qadr and be granted Allah’s mercy and acceptance—Ameen!
